COLTS 19 - SEA 17
The Seattle Seahawks‘ Training Camp began on July 26th and continued through August 16th, 2018.
As the Seahawks opened rookie minicamp, Schneider and Carroll saw an early glimpse of what developing McGough could be like. Carroll had a lot of praise for the quarterback after Day 1 of practice, calling him the surprise of the afternoon.
”Probably the surprise of the day was Alex,” Carroll said Friday. “I thought Alex did a very nice job. He showed really good arm strength. We know that he’s very mobile. He showed a lot of mobility out of him – he got chased a lot last year on film so we know that he can move around and make things happen. But he had really good arm strength and he threw the ball really accurately today for his first time out. Getting him under center was a little change for him but he had an impressive first day so we’re pleased to see that.”
Alex McGough is the first quarterback to be drafted by Seattle Seahawks since Russell Wilson in 2012. “He has different release points, which is really cool,” Pete Carroll added. “In all his stuff, there’s this category now called ‘off the spot’ where you just watch this guy play where he’s got to move and of all the guys in this class, Baker [Mayfield] was first, which makes sense with his movement skills and his eyes.”The 6-foot-3, 218-pound McGough finished the 2017 season having completed 231 of 354 passes for 2,791 yards and 17 touchdowns. Carroll was more focused on how he stacked up against other quarterbacks available.“In terms of his completion percentage, [Mayfield] was 58 percent, which is really high, and [McGough] was 54 percent — he was second — and Sam Darnold was third at 48 percent,” Carroll said. “[McGough is] going to be really fun. He’s got this great attitude about him, he’s a really cool kid. Great feet, great movement skills, tough, aggressive. We’re excited.”
